Adapter for a motor vehicle wiper
TECHNICAL AREA
The present invention relates in particular to an adapter for a wiper, in particular a motor vehicle.
STATE OF THE ART
A car is conventionally equipped with windshield wipers to wash the windshield and to prevent the driver's vision from being disturbed. These wipers generally comprise a drive arm, performing an angular reciprocating movement, and elongate brushes, themselves carrying scraper blades made of an elastic material. These blades rub against the windshield and evacuate the water by bringing it out of the driver's field of vision. The brooms are made in the form, or, in a conventional version, articulated stirrups that hold the scraper blade in several discrete places by giving it a bend allowing it to marry the eventual curvature of the windshield, or, in a newer version called "fiat blade" (for "flat blade"), a semi-rigid assembly that keeps the scraper blade along its length thanks to one or bending vertebrae to apply the broom on the bumper -brise without having to use stirrups.
In both solutions, the blade is attached to the drive arm by a connector system including a connector and an adapter. The connector is a piece which is secured to the blade and which is usually attached directly to the scraper blade or the fiat blade, while the adapter is secured to the arm. The adapter is an intermediate piece that allows the connection and attachment of the connector on the drive arm. It is generally configured to be engaged in a head or end piece in the form of a clevis and U-shaped cross section of the drive arm.
Each of these members (connector and adapter) comprises hinge means configured to cooperate with means complementary to the other member, to define at least one transverse axis of articulation of the members, which is an axis of articulation of the blade vis-à-vis the arm. In the present art, one of the members, such as the connector, generally comprises a substantially cylindrical physical axis which defines the axis of articulation and which is received in a housing of complementary shape to the other member. The adapter generally comprises a body configured to be engaged in the end piece of the arm so that the body extends at least partly between two substantially parallel side walls of the end piece. The body of the adapter is connected at one end to a fairing or cowling, commonly called cap, on which the free end of the end piece abuts. Finally, the body of the adapter generally comprises an actuating button which is engaged by elastic latching in a hole of a transverse wall of the end piece, when the latter is in abutment on the cap, to lock the cap. adapter vis-à-vis the end piece in this position.
An adapter makes it possible to associate a broom with a particular type of end piece. In the case of the aforementioned end pieces U section, there are several varieties.
There is also a broom equipped with a lateral locking end piece. This end piece is integral with a cylindrical rod intended to define said hinge axis, and intended to be rotatably engaged in a complementary shape of the adapter body orifice and in an orifice of the connector.
In the present art, there are as many varieties of adapter as varieties of end pieces, which is not practical or economical. There is therefore a real need for a universal adapter adapted to be mounted on at least two or more end pieces of wiper arm, and in particular on end pieces of different types. The invention proposes a simple, effective and economical solution to this need.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
It should be noted that the figures disclose the invention in detail to implement the invention, said figures can of course be used to better define the invention where appropriate.
In the following description, the longitudinal or lateral names refer to the orientation of the wiper blade or the drive arm according to the invention. The longitudinal direction corresponds to the main axis of the broom or the arm in which it extends, while the lateral orientations correspond to concurrent lines, that is to say which cross the longitudinal direction, in particular perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the broom or arm in its plane of rotation. For the longitudinal directions, the names outside (or rear) or inside (or before) are assessed relative to the point of attachment of the blade on the arm, the inner name corresponding to the part where the arm and a half-broom s' extend, or relative to the attachment point of the arm to the vehicle. Finally, the directions referenced as upper or lower correspond to orientations perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the wiper blade, the lower denomination containing the plane of the windshield.
There is illustrated in FIG. 1 a windscreen wiper 10 comprising in particular a brush 12 and an arm 14 for driving the brush 12.
The blade 12 is preferably of the fiat blade type and comprises a longitudinal body 16, a wiper blade 18, generally made of rubber, and at least one vertebra (not visible) which stiffens the blade and promotes its application to a shield. vehicle breeze.
The body 16 of the blade 12 may comprise an upper aerodynamic deflector 20 intended to improve the operation of the wiper system, the purpose of this deflector being to improve the plating of the blade on the windshield and therefore the aerodynamic performance of the blade. wiper.
The blade 12 may further comprise end tips 22 or hooking clips of the blade 18 and the vertebra on the body 16, these end pieces 22 being located at each of the longitudinal ends of the body 16.
The brush 12 comprises substantially in its middle an intermediate connector 24. An adapter 26 secured to the arm 14 is mounted on the connector 24 so as to maintain a degree of freedom in pivoting about an axis of articulation Y which is a transverse axis substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the blade 12. This degree of freedom allows a pivoting of the blade 12 vis-à-vis the arm 14 and thus allows the broom to follow the curvature of the windshield during its movements. The adapter 26 can be detached from the arm 14 by pressing an actuation button, here a push button 27, carried by the adapter.
The arm 14 is intended to be driven by a motor to follow a reciprocating angular movement to evacuate the water and possibly other undesirable elements covering the windshield. The adapter 26 connects the blade 12 to the arm 14 and in particular to a head or end piece 28 of the arm which can be formed integrally with the arm or attached and fixed thereto.
In the example shown, the adapter 26 may be connected to an end piece 28 'of a first arm 14', of the vertical locking type, shown in FIG. 2, and to an end piece 28 of a second arm 14 , visible in Figure 3, and which forms a yoke with a substantially U-shaped cross section.
In FIG. 2, the end piece 28 'has an elongated shape whose elongation axis A is generally substantially parallel to the axis of elongation or longitudinal axis of the blade 12. The end piece 28' comprises a portion 30 'of connection to the rest of the arm 14 ', for example by crimping. This portion 30 'has a generally elongate shape and extends along an axis B substantially parallel to the axis A and at a distance from this axis. The portion 30 'is connected to a rear or inner end of the remainder of the end piece 28'.
The end piece 28 'comprises two side walls 32a', 32b 'whose upper longitudinal edges are interconnected by an upper transverse wall 34'. The walls 32a ', 32b' are integral with a cylindrical rod 33 which extends between the walls 32a ', 32b' and extends laterally or transversely beyond one of the walls (namely the wall 32b 'in the example shown - Figures 7 and 8). The rod 33 defines or extends along the hinge axis Y.
The end piece 28 ', and in particular its upper wall 34', comprises an extension or L-shaped side lug 35. This lug 35 comprises a first portion 35a parallel to the upper wall 34 'and extending laterally in the extension of the latter. It has an elongate shape, one longitudinal end of which is connected to the upper wall and the opposite longitudinal end is connected to a second portion 35b or a flange substantially perpendicular to the first portion.
The flange 35b extends substantially facing the side wall 32b 'and is located at a transverse distance H of this wall. This distance H is measured between the lateral faces opposite the flange 35b and the wall 32b '(FIG. 8). The distance H is measured along the Y axis. The closest distance between the flange 35b and the rod 33, measured in the plane of said flange 35b, is denoted B (FIG. 7).
In FIG. 3, the end piece 28 has an elongate shape whose elongation axis A is generally substantially parallel to the axis of elongation or longitudinal axis of the blade 12. The end piece 28 comprises a connecting portion 30 to the rest arm 14, for example by crimping. This portion 30 has a generally elongate shape and extends along an axis B substantially parallel to the axis A and at a distance from this axis. The portion 30 is connected to a rear or inner end of the remainder of the end piece 28.
The end piece 28 comprises two lateral walls 32a, 32b whose upper longitudinal edges are interconnected by an upper transverse wall 34. The walls 32a, 32b and the wall 34 delimit between them a housing space of the adapter 26. walls 32a, 32b comprise at their lower longitudinal edges means 36, such as hooks, retaining the adapter 26 in the aforementioned space (Figure 10).
The upper wall 34 comprises a through opening 38 of complementary shape of the push button 27. In the mounting position, the push button 27 is housed in this opening 38 and can pass through the latter so as to project on the upper face of the wall 34. The mounting of the push button 27 in the opening 38 is by simple engagement or interlocking, preferably by snap elastic.
L is defined as the width or lateral dimension of the end piece 28, this (external) width L being measured between the walls 32a, 32b and more exactly between the outer faces thereof. The internal width L 'is measured between the inner faces of the walls 32a, 32b. Any width is measured in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis A and parallel to the wall 34. In addition, the thickness of each wall 32a, 32b is defined by E, which amounts to the thickness of the sheet used. to manufacture the end piece when it is obtained by stamping.
According to the invention and as shown in Figures 2 and 3, the adapter 26 is of the "universal" type and is intended to be mounted indifferently on one or other of the end pieces 28, 28 '. The adapter 26, better visible in Figures 4 to 6, has a generally elongated shape along the axis A '. It comprises a body having two side walls 42a, 42b substantially parallel to each other and to the axis A ', and at a distance from one another. These walls 42a, 42b are interconnected at their upper ends by an upper transverse wall 44 substantially perpendicular to the walls 42a, 42b. The walls 42a, 42b, 44 here have an elongated shape in the longitudinal direction.
The walls 42a, 42b, 44 of the adapter 26 define between them a longitudinal space in which is intended to be mounted a portion of the connector 24, 24 '. In the case of FIGS. 3, 9 and 10, the connector 24 carries a transverse axis of substantially cylindrical pivoting intended to be fitted by elastic latching in housings of complementary shape to the walls 42a, 42b of the body of the adapter 26. In the In the case of Figures 2, 7 and 8 the connector 24 'comprises a transverse orifice which is intended to be aligned with an orifice 45 of the adapter, and to receive the cylindrical rod 33 of the end piece 28' of the arm 14 '.
The body of the adapter 26 is connected at a first of its longitudinal ends to a fairing or cowling 46, also called cap. This cowling 46 has a lateral or transverse dimension greater than that of the body of the adapter and a height also greater than that of the body. The lateral walls 42a, 42b of the body of the adapter are thus recessed or offset with respect to lateral (external) faces 46a, 46b of the cowling 46, and its upper wall 44 is recessed or offset with respect to an upper face. (outer) 46c of the cowling.
The upper face 46c of the cowling 46 is connected to the upper wall 44 of the body by a rear face 46ca which also extends perpendicularly to the axis A.
The rear face 46ca of the cap 46 forms a bearing face of the outer end or front of the end piece 28. More precisely, in the mounted position of the adapter 26 in the end piece 28, the free edge before the upper wall 34 of the end piece 28 is intended to bear on the face 48 (Figure 3).
The upper wall 44 of the body of the adapter 26 comprises two longitudinal slots 56 parallel to each other and to the axis A 'and spaced from one another. They define between them a longitudinal tongue 50. This tongue 50 is elastically deformable and is connected at its rear free end to the aforementioned push button 27. In the free state without constraint, the tongue 50 is such that the push button 27 is projecting on the upper wall 44. The push button 27 is located in a housing 57 of the upper wall 44 of the body, connected to the aforementioned slots 56 .
The cowling 46 comprises lateral walls 52a, 52b substantially parallel to each other and to the axis A '. These walls extend on either side of the body and are laterally spaced from this body to allow insertion of the side walls 32a, 32b of the end piece 28 between the body and the side walls 52a, 52b.
The walls 52a, 52b are interconnected at their upper ends by an upper transverse wall 54 substantially perpendicular to the walls 52a, 52b. The walls 52a, 52b here have an elongate shape in the longitudinal direction. The walls 52a, 52b are also interconnected at their front or outer ends by a front transverse wall 55 substantially perpendicular to the walls 52a, 52b.
The walls 52a, 52b extend rearwardly from the front wall 55. The walls 52a, 52b are laterally spaced from the lateral walls 42a, 42b of the body and define therewith side receiving housings of the lateral walls of the body. end piece 28.
The wall 52a is facing the wall 42a of the body and is spaced from the latter by a transverse distance D, greater than or equal to E. The wall 52b is facing the wall 42b of the body and is separated from it. ci of the same transverse distance D, greater than or equal to E.
Moreover, L1 denotes the maximum distance or lateral dimension between the external faces 46a, 46b of the side walls 52a, 52b of the cowling, and H, the minimum distance or lateral dimension between the (internal faces) of the side walls 52a, 52b. .
In the example shown, H is greater than or equal to L. In addition, D is greater than E.
The side walls 52a, 52b define a first longitudinal end portion of width L1 and a second opposite longitudinal end portion of width L2, less than L1. L1 and L2 are greater than L and the width L3 of the body.
The walls 52a, 52b each comprise a portion of the orifice 45 defining the Y axis. As can be seen in particular in FIG. 6, the walls 52a, 52b and 42a, 42b comprise orifice portions 45. In other words, they are traversed by the same orifice 45, which defines the hinge axis Y.
In the example shown, the orifice 45 is substantially located at the junction of said first and second end portions of the walls 52a, 52b.
The body here comprises a transverse groove 55 which extends on its upper wall 44, between the side walls 42a, 42b. This groove 55 extends near a transverse plane P perpendicular to the longitudinal axis A 'of the adapter and passing substantially through the orifice 45.
In addition, the lateral walls 42a, 42b comprise, on their external lateral faces, protruding ribs 43. Each wall 42a, 42b comprises two protruding ribs spaced longitudinally from one another, and defining lateral faces 43a, 43b, 43c, 43d intended to cooperate by sliding with the end piece 28 or 28 '. The front sliding faces 43a, 43c and rear 43b, 43d preferably cooperate with the inner faces of the side walls 32a, 32b of the end piece 28. L 'is then substantially equal to L3. The outer faces of these walls 32a, 32b can cooperate by sliding with the internal faces of the second end portions of the cowling 46.
When the adapter 26 is engaged in the end piece 28, by axial translation, from front to rear, along the axis A, the walls 32a, 32b of the end piece 28 extend from one side to the other. other body of the adapter and are flush with its side walls 42a, 42b, or are in contact therewith. The hooks 36 of the end piece fit under the body of the adapter to hold it in the end piece 28. Finally, the end piece 28 is supported by the front edge of its upper wall 34 on the rear face 46ca of the rollover 46, and the push button 27 is engaged in the opening 38 of the end piece. In the mounted position, the axes A and A are substantially merged.
As seen in Figures 7 and 8, the side wall 32b 'of the end piece 28' is intended to cooperate by sliding with the outer side face 46a of the side wall 52a of the cowling 46. The rim 35b of the end piece 28 is intended to co-operate by sliding with the rear face 43d of the side wall 42b of the body of the adapter 26. The arm 14 'is mounted on the adapter 26 in the following manner. The end piece 28 'is disposed on the side of the adapter 26 and the cylindrical rod 33 is aligned with the orifice 45 of the adapter 26. The end piece is moved towards the adapter by translation along the axis Y, the end piece being oriented about the Y axis vis-à-vis the adapter so that its rim 35b passes over the upper wall 44 of the body. This is allowed by the distance B above. This translation is performed until the side wall 32b 'bears laterally on the face 46a of the cowling. The arm 14 'is then rotated about the Y axis with respect to the adapter 26, until the flange 35b slidably engages with the rear face 43d of the body, as shown in FIGS. Figures 7 and 8. H is substantially equal to L3 + ((L1-L3) / 2) so that the wall 32b 'and the rim 35b of the end piece 28' cooperate respectively with the faces 46a, 43d of the In the mounted position, the axes A and A 'are parallel and distant from each other.
